GREEN GARDEN WASTE SATELLITE SITES - FURTHER REVISIONS TO SERVICE

Decision Maker: Portfolio Holder for Environment and Community Services

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

(1)  Option 2 is agreed for the future operation of the Green Garden Waste Satellite service as outlined in Report ES15085, with the changes to be effective from April 2016.

(2)  Shire Lane is confirmed as the site to remain in operation from May to October.

Reasons for the decision:

With the new GGW Wheelie Bin collection service now having 17,500 customers, the original objective of the Satellite Sites – to address congestion issues near the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) – have become less crucial. The HWRCs have seen a substantial fall in tonnage collected, albeit a lower diversion from Churchfields, and the Satellite Sites have also seen less tonnage, their reduced opening times being a factor.

The decision above will enable the operation of all five Satellite Sites during April and maintain one site (Shire Lane) in operation thereafter to October on every Saturday. Provision would also be included to operate the Satellite Sites for one weekend in January for Christmas tree recycling.
