Decision Maker: Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Families

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Part 1

Decision:

That the revised Instrument of Government be approved.

That the Portfolio Holder for Education instructs that the Instrument be made by the Common Seal of the Council of the London Borough of Bromley.

Reasons for the decision:

Every school must have an Instrument of government recording the name of the school and the constitution of the Governing Body.

It is the Governing Body’s responsibility to prepare a draft instrument for submission to the Local Authority, and the Local Authority must be content that the draft complies with all applicable statutory requirements.

The Governing Body of Farnborough Primary School has considered their constitution and has agreed to request that the following categories of governor be reduced by two: Parent and Local Authority.  The Governing Body has also agreed to request that the Staff Governor be reduced by one.  The number of Co-opted Governor positions would remain unchanged.  The total number of governors would be reduced by five.
