Transfer of the Adult Education Service

Decision Maker: Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Families

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Part 1

Decision:

That the proposal to recommend future use of the Education Development Centre site for educational purposes be agreed in principle.

Reasons for the decision:

The London Borough of Bromley’s Corporate Operating Principles define the Council as an organisation based around four core principles: Member-led; delivering Value for Money; supporting independence; and efficient and non-bureaucratic.

Recent changes to the strategic management of Bromley Adult Education College and future plans for school workforce development and staff training at the college would support the Council to achieve the principles of delivering value for money by bringing together separate services into an efficient joined-up service for adult education, workforce development and employee training.

By relocating remaining staff and functions based at the Education Development Centre to alternate sites including the Widmore and Bromley Civic Centre sites, the Education Development Centre site would be released for educational purposes with additional savings realised on premises costs.
