Decision:

For any future groundwater flooding event, the L B Bromley will:

 

·  support residents to make their own flood protection arrangements for their property;

 

·  take a facilitating role with relevant agencies;

 

·  expect emergency services, e.g. London Fire Brigade, Thames Water and the Environment Agency to take initial action in a flooding event to remove excess water; and

 

  • record on the Council’s website the responsibilities of residents for any future groundwater flood event.

Reasons for the decision:

Report ES14042 provides an update on the Council’s role as Lead Local Flood Authority and considers the impact of recent groundwater flood events.

 

The report was considered by the Environment PDS Committee at their meeting on on 1st July 2014. The Committee considered the Council’s role in any future groundwater flooding event and its views included the following:

 

·  the Council should support residents make their own flood protection arrangements for their property with the Council providing a facilitating role with relevant agencies;

 

·  the Council should assist agencies work together in a timely manner; and

 

·  emergency services e.g. London Fire Brigade/Thames water should be expected to take initial action in a flooding event to remove excess water.
