SEN TRANSPORT - ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS

Decision Maker: Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Families

Decision status: For Determination

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

That the proposal to pilot the implementation of a muster point scheme at one or two special schools in the Borough be agreed.

That a maximum of £16k expenditure from the Special Educational Needs Transport budget be agreed for use in support of the pilot scheme.

Reasons for the decision:

The strategic objectives of the Local Authority specified in ‘Building a Better Bromley’ include an objective to support Bromley residents to live as independently as possible within the community.

The proposed pilot muster point scheme aims to target certain areas and routes for identified pupils from one or two special schools during the Summer Term 2015 for a period of one year, with a view to establishing if there is a robust business case for a muster point scheme to be delivered across the Borough, reducing the number of door-to-door collections for children and young people with special educational needs and providing them with a similar travel to school experience as their non-SEN peers.
