DEDICATED SCHOOLS FUNDING GRANT

Decision Maker: Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Families

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

That the Dedicated Schools Grant allocation to the Schools Budget for 2016/17 be approved.

Reasons for the decision:

The Local Authority is obliged to account for and distribute funding received from the Government for the purposes of education in accordance with the relevant legislative accounting provision.

In December 2015, the Department for Education released the final Dedicated Schools Grant for 2016/17 based on the final units of funding that were released in July 2015.  The final units of funding had increased from £4545.22 in 2015/16 to £4548.24 to include funding for non-recoupment academies and free schools that were previously funded separately, and Dedicated Schools Grant income was generally in line with what was expected and what had been received in previous years.

The proposed allocation of Dedicated Schools Grant for 2016/17 was considered at the meeting of the Schools’ Forum on 14th January 2016 and agreed in principle.
