Former Public Toilets, Bromley Hill Cemetery

Decision Maker: Portfolio Holder for Resources, Commissioning and Contracts Management

Is Key decision?: No

Decision:

That the former public toilets at Bromley Hill Cemetery, Bromley Hill, Bromley be declared surplus to Council requirements and sold to the adjacent residents.

Reasons for the decision:

The Council sold the Lodge at Bromley Hill Cemetery in 1994, but retained responsibility for the adjacent public toilets and the cesspool serving both properties, subject to the owners of the Lodge paying for 25% of the cleansing and maintenance. With the public toilets having closed, negotiations were held with the owners of the Lodge for them to assume full responsibility for the cesspool. The owners of the Lodge have enquired whether the Council would be prepared to sell the former public toilets. Sale of the toilets would generate a capital receipt and the Council would no longer be responsible for emptying the cesspool, saving approximately £270 per year.
