Decision details

Future of Footway Recycling Collection Service

Decision Maker: Portfolio Holder for Environment and Community Services

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

The Portfolio Holder agreed to cease the footway recycling collection service pilot and that the end of the pilot should be communicated to all relevant parties. Additionally, the locations of the nearest recycling sites to households within the pilot areas should also be communicated.

The Portfolio Holder agreed that alternative options for recycling provision at Chatsworth Parade should be considered.

Reasons for the decision:

The report provided an overview of the footway recycling collection pilot and the proposals for the future of the service.

From a financial perspective, the footway recycling collection service was deemed to be unviable since its implementation would cost the Council an additional £71k (net) once running costs and savings from recycling had been taken into account, at a time when the Council was facing continuing budgetary pressures. Therefore, it was recommended that the pilot should not be extended.
