(17/02754/FULL1) - 210 High Street, Beckenham, BR3 1EN

Decision:

DEFERRED

Minutes:

Description of application – Installation of a new shopfront (RETROSPECTIVE APPLICATION).

Oral representations from Ward Member, Councillor Stephen Wells, in objection to the application were received at the meeting.  Councillor Wells referred to the shop’s history, the current retrospective application in the conservation area, and previous planning refusals.  The modern style shop front had changed the traditional character of the High Street and surrounding area and he was concerned that insufficient enforcement action had been taken.  He stressed that Leaseholders should respect their obligations in conservation areas and seek prior planning permission.

Ward Member, Councillor Mellor, said it was a contentious issue and he suggested the application be deferred in order that the applicant be given an opportunity to respect Policy BE11.

Members having considered the report, objections and representations, RESOLVED that THE APPLICATION BE DEFERRED, without prejudice to any future consideration, to seek an amended and improved design to be more in keeping with the Beckenham Town Centre Conservation Area.
