Decision:

REFUSED

Minutes:

Description of application – Proposed loft conversion with partial hip to gable extension, rear dormer and front rooflights.

Oral representations in support of the application were received at the meeting.

An email with attachment from Councillor Keith Onslow had been received on 11 June 2018 and circulated to Members.  Councillor Onslow’s email stated that both he and fellow Ward Member, Councillor Tony Owen, fully supported any conclusions that Cllr Fawthrop may reach in his deliberations of this application made at the meeting and that the key issue was the impact of the application on the Petts Wood Area of Special Residential Character.

Ward Member, Councillor Fawthrop, read a statement and referred to the description of the Petts Wood Area of Residential Character document and requested they be appended to these minutes (‘Annex A’).

Councillor Scoates agreed with Councillor Fawthrop’s comments.

Members having considered the report, objections and representations, RESOLVED that PERMISSION BE REFUSED for the following reason:-

1.  The proposal by reason of the alterations to the main roof design would be detrimental to the symmetrical appearance of this pair of semi-detached houses and to the street scene generally, causing harm to the Petts Wood Area of Special Residential Character contrary to Policies BE1, H10 and H8 of the Unitary Development Plan and Policies 6, 37 and 44 of the draft Local Plan.
