Riverside School Safety Crossing

We the undersigned petition the Council to help us drop off and pick up our children safely from school! Our vulnerable children’s lives are at great risk when crossing the extremely busy road outside school everyday. We are petitioning to the responsible authorities to install a pedestrian crossing outside Riverside School.

Our children are extremely vulnerable who attend Riverside School. Our children’s disabilities have an impact on their ability to cross the road safely, some children are developmentally delayed, have a learning disability, no awareness of danger, unable to communicate or follow instructions and little or no understanding, challenging behaviour and complex medical conditions all of which make crossing the busy road to school in the morning very dangerous! The road by Riverside school is extremely busy with both sides of the road taken up by parked cars, some children are in large specialist buggy’s and wheelchairs making it difficult to manoeuvre in-between parked cars and fast traffic, our children can be unpredictable with certain noises posing bigger risks waiting to cross a busy road. There is very limited parking for parents and the car park opposite is no longer in use. Flashing signs have been installed which have made no difference at all, Riverside school have made the front of the school more visible to encourage them to slow down however it’s just getting more dangerous! The road is a cut through to divert from the traffic on Sevenoaks way. A pedestrian crossing needs to be put in place before there is a serious accident or fatality!
