Question time

Question time gives you the opportunity to come and put questions to the full Council, the Executive, Portfolio Holders, Policy Development and Scrutiny (PDS) committees or other committees about their activities and decisions. All these meetings set aside a slot at the start to answer your questions. Questions are dealt with in the order they are received and if you attend the meeting, you will usually be able to ask a supplementary question.

Eligibility

Questions (one per person):

  • must be about something the Council can influence;
  • must be with us by 5pm, ten working days before the meeting (except questions clarifying reports on the agenda, which can be received up to 5pm on the second day after the agenda is published - the deadline is set out on the agenda for each meeting);
  • should not be longer than 50 words, or require excessive research;
  • must not be defamatory, frivolous or offensive, or substantially the same as a question that has already been put to Council.
  • you will also need to provide a postal address that shows that you live, work or study in the borough (this will not be published);

Questions at Policy Development and Scrutiny (PDS) committees are usually answered by Portfolio Holders as they are politically accountable for the Council’s services.

Next steps

Send your question to the Democratic Services Team. If you think a particular Portfolio Holder should answer your question, please tell us. Please let us know if you will attend the meeting to put your question, or if you require a written reply instead
